Brandt's wide-screen panoramas of animals and landscapes capture an epic vision of Africa not seen before. His iconic portraits of its majestic animals are filled with an empathy usually reserved for human subjects. From the opening images in A Shadow Falls, of a verdant world filled with multitudes of animals, to the closing images of small bands of creatures moving across a parched, dusty earth, Brandt portrays a mythic Africa struggling against tragic forces. In years to come, we will look back at these powerful photographs and wonder why humanity did not do more to preserve this rare corner of earthly paradise. NL A Shadow Falls is het vervolg van Nick Brandts ambitieuze fotoproject om de magnifieke verdwijnende natuur van Oost-Afrika te eren. In zijn breedbeeldpanoramas van dieren en landschappen slaagt Brandt erin een ongewoon episch Afrika op de gevoelige plaat vast te leggen. Zijn emblematische portretten van de majestueuze dieren op dit continent geven blijk van een empathie, die gewoonlijk weerhouden wordt voor menselijke onderwerpen. Vanaf de openingsbeelden van A Shadow Falls, die een groene regio tonen bevolkt door allerhande dieren tot de eindbeelden van kleine groepjes dieren die door een kaal, stoffig en uitgedroogd landschap zwerven, fotografeert Brandt een mythisch Afrika, dat tegen tragische krachten moet optornen voor zijn behoud. In de toekomst zullen we terugkijken op deze krachtige foto's en ons ongetwijfeld afvragen waarom de mensheid niet meer gedaan heeft om dit uithoekje van het aards paradijs te beschermen. Dans un proche avenir, en regardant ces superbes images, nous nous demanderons pourquoi l'humanité n'a-t-elle pas fait davantage pour préserver ce paradis terrestre. At a time when assets are universally depreciating in value, Drebin showed that there is still appreciation to be found for the very best quality art. His 121x152 cm (48x60") photograph "Movie Star" shot to a final selling price of $16,250 at Phillips De Pury's spring photographs auction in New York. A collector would have seen their piece more than double in value in less than 12 month, an amazing anomaly to the current economic climate.
